Dead By Hanging – Super Vibrator (Digital, 2025)

    GAJOOB Review by Bryan Baker:

There’s something deeply satisfying about getting lost in an audio space that refuses to be pinned down. Super Vibrator, the latest transmission from Dead By Hanging, is less an album and more a dense sound collage woven from magnetic tape scraps, overheard conversations, junk drawer percussion, and the kind of sonic drift that feels like eavesdropping on the subconscious of a broken radio.

From the first moment, you’re dropped into a world of beautiful chaos. Found sounds—clinks, coughs, static, distant yelling—tumble together with warped instrument tones and ghost voices. But this isn’t random noise for noise’s sake. There’s a strange, lurching rhythm in the unstructuredness. One moment, you’re submerged in the drama of what sounds like neighbors arguing through cracked drywall, and the next you’re floating through a lo-fi ambient lull that almost tricks you into relaxing… until it gets dismantled again by sonic interference or an off-key synth spasm.

It’s music that plays with the idea of music. It tweaks the dials, detunes the expectations, and makes no apology for its oddities. In a way, it is the tuning knob—the kind that clicks between stations that don’t exist anymore.

There’s a spellbinding quality here, like being under the influence of a dream logic. Patterns emerge, collapse, re-emerge with different textures. The mood swings are intentional, like the whole album is alive and reacting to being heard.

Fans of sound art, tape culture, or anyone who ever loved recording junk onto cassettes just to see what it sounded like when reversed and slowed down—Super Vibrator is your new weird friend. And like any good weird friend, it never says what it means but you still feel like it gets you.

Highly recommended headphone fodder for the brave and curious.

    Media: Digital.
